Local Area - Welcome to the Costa Brava and Catalonia

The Costa Brava starts at the border with France and stretches down to Blanes, 60km north of Barcelona. It has the most interesting coastline with rocky beaches, beautiful little coves and pretty seaside villages, such as Calella de Palafrugell, Tamariu, Llafranc, in fact too many to mention.

Further south, you will find the Costa Maresme with big seaside resorts such as Malgrat de Mar and Calella. South of Barcelona, the region of Tarragona presides over the Costa Daurada, with the big resort Salou and the popular theme park Port Aventura. The Costa Daurada boasts long beaches with white fishermen's cottages in a typical Mediterranean setting.

The rugged coastline is renowned for small creeks and spectacular scenery and it is a popular destination throughout the year for walking and other leisure activities.

Catalonia is a region of Spain, containing six million inhabitants but it has more than a thousand years of history, with a culture and a language of its own.

This unique part of Spain has something to offer all tastes ranging through the arts, culture, gastronomy, sporting facilities, interesting towns and fascinating villages to explore, while benefiting from a climate that complements these activities.

It is well known for its sun drenched coastline, and boasts 580 km's of “Blue Flag” beaches. However, just a short distance inland there are places of artistic interest, historic buildings and landscapes that are equally worth exploring.

Catalonia has numerous mountainous regions; the most important is the Pyrenees. In winter the pretty ski resorts attract many winter sports lovers. In summer the rolling green country side is ideal for walking, hiking and biking.

For real thrill seekers inland offers such diverse activities as quad biking, ballooning and parachuting as well as a huge range of other sports such as golf, horse riding, cycling and trekking.

Along the coast are water sports like sailing, kayak trips, snorkelling and scuba diving, while for those whose pleasure comes from doing nothing there are wonderful beaches to discover.

If the beaches are not for you, there are plenty of attractions to be found within easy reach of the property. La Bisbal is the centre of the ceramics industry whilst Figueres has the wacky experience of the Teatre-museu Dali

We do recommend a car, so that you can take advantage of the fantastic scenery, gastromic delights in the Gavarres Hills, historic sights and museums.
